Boy Scout Abuse
For many years the Boy Scouts of America have been under scrutiny for claims of sexual abuse and misconduct. As one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, the Boys Scouts of America have taught youth invaluable skills in responsibility, citizenship, character development, and self-reliance for generations. In recent years, it has come to light that numerous Scout leaders, adult volunteers, and others in positions of power have sexually abused young members of the organization. In fact, a well-documented case involving the Boy Scouts in 2010 resulted in the release of secret files detailing child sex abuse accusations within the organization from 1965 to 1985. In this particular set of files, there were more than 1,200 separate cases of abuse allegations.
Challenging the Secrecy
Cases such as those concerning the Boy Scouts demonstrate that even the most seemingly trusted and well-respected organizations can play host to these reprehensible acts. In addition, they highlight the ways in which these organizations not only fail to report cases but also actively participate in covering them up. Similar to abuse in schools and clergy sexual abuse, there is a dense atmosphere of secrecy and willful disregard to victims. In order to establish the truth and achieve justice, our firm can effectively investigate claims and challenge the secrecy and difficulties involved in these cases.
